A song that you first heard in high school and still like- In 1972 I was a High School freshman, that year a phenomenally good compilation LP was released: Nuggets, compiled by Lenny Kaye (future Patti Smith guitarist)… It contained obscure garage rock classics from the mid-to-late 60s that were pretty much forgotten by ’72. They were completely unknown to someone my age, but they were GREAT! Pushing Too Hard by The Seeds was my favorite on the lp… But it also included other great bands like the Electric Prunes, the Standells, the Count Five and so many more. The next year, 1973 one of my other all-time favorite lps was released, the debut album by the New York Dolls… Both provided a great base for the Punk Rock movement to come a few years later…

A song where a band mentions or refers to themselves- I was going to stick with the mid-60s vibe and pick Monkees Theme or Legend of Paul Revere and the Raiders, but decided to go to the punk era and select the phenomenal Down in Flames by The Dead Boys…crank it up!!!

A song that reminds you of sitting in the backseat of your parents’ car- When I was a kid, my parents’ car had an AM radio, the old-fashioned kind with the chrome push button presets… They would frequently drive in silence, or with an easy listening station on… When my brother and I were in the car we would clamor for 77 WABC, NY top 40 radio… In 1968 I remember hearing MacArthur Park by Richard Harris in heavy rotation. My ten-year-old brain could not comprehend what the song was about, so I would listen intently, he sounded so serious, but what the hell, a cake is melting, sweet green icing flowing down, What was he singing about?!?
