Winslow LeechParticipant
A song about Freedom or oppression – Freedom by Alice Cooper… Happy Fourth of July!🇺🇸
Winslow LeechParticipantA song that for a long time you didn’t know the real name of- For What it’s Worth by Buffalo Springfield… Came out when I was in grade school, heard it on the radio, liked the song but didn’t know it’s real name… thought that it was “Something’s Happening Here” or maybe “What’s Going Down”… The real title “For What it’s Worth” isn’t even in the lyrics… Oh well, great song anyway
Winslow LeechParticipantA song about it being hot outside – Summer in the City by Joe Cocker (cover of the Lovin’ Spoonful song)…
Winslow LeechParticipantA song that mentions July – Fourth of July by the band X…
Winslow LeechParticipantBand starts with the letter T, song starts with a T – Telegram Sam by T.Rex (featuring the late, great Marc Bolan)…
Winslow LeechParticipantA song that features a saxophone – 82 Tombstones by the legendary John Zacherle… He later changed the spelling of his last name to Zacherley to make it easier to pronounce it correctly… The Cool Ghoul himself! He was an iconic TV Horror host, rock/dance TV show host, Recording artist, FM DJ, actor and Chiller Theatre horror convention host… and one of the nicest guys you could ever meet!
Winslow LeechParticipantA song that refers to an amusement park – Palisades Park was originally recorded by Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon (written by Chuck Barris)… Here it is covered by The Ramones…
Winslow LeechParticipantA song with a great opening lyric- “I’m a street-walking cheetah with a heart full of Napalm, I’m a runaway son of the nuclear A-bomb…” Search & Destroy by Iggy and the Stooges…
Winslow LeechParticipantA song about the SUN- Seasons in the Sun covered by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes… The famous version of Seasons in the Sun was a big hit single in 1974 by Canadian singer Terry Jacks… However it is based on and earlier foreign language Belgian song that was later translated & partially rewritten by Rod McKuen, and later rewritten again by Terry Jacks. All versions are extremely sad. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes cover the Terry Jacks song and speed it up… The lyrics are still sad, but it’s not quite as heartbroken at a faster speed…
Winslow LeechParticipantA song with great fuzz guitar- Axecidental by Davie Allan & the Arrows… Davie Allen calls himself the “King of the fuzz guitar” and has been ripping it up since the mid-60s, not to mention scoring dozens of biker movie soundtracks!
Winslow LeechParticipantA METAL song- Well, that certainly does leave the category wide open… I pick Decrepit Birth’s song The Living Doorway, recorded live at the Summer Slaughter Fest… Great Death Metal band!
Winslow LeechParticipantA record that you have given as a gift- The Ramones debut album came out in 1976. To me it was such a revelatory, groundbreaking, phenomenal LP… I played that album non-stop all year… For Christmas ’76, I bought out Korvettes’ entire stock of that lp (twice), and gave a copies to ALL my friends. Most did not share my enthusiasm, LOL!
(hopefully, years later they realized how incredibly great it was!)Winslow LeechParticipantA favorite Summer song – I will take this one quite literally, “A Summer Song” by Chad and Jeremy… a beautiful song from 1964…
Winslow LeechParticipantA song with the word long or short in the title-
Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress by The Hollies…Winslow LeechParticipantA song that reminds you of your Dad – Fly Like an Eagle, this version is by Les Paul with Steve Miller… My Dad was
(among Many other things) a helicopter pilot, that was probably his favorite… This song reminds me of that… Happy Father’s Day! -
