You Too Can Win: Boobs Of Doom Review
by Tom Lifer, June 10, 2020
Rating 4.9/5 I first encountered Boobs Of Doom in The Wire magazine. They were a very curious looking duo with skull faces and robes. I searched out their music and I was blown away.
Why? I was blown away because things just felt good immediately. Their music never left feeling good. Was it completely original? No. Was it groundbreaking? No.
There was a swagger to it that many recordings just don’t have. I started rooting around their catalog. There is no recording that sounds bad. Everything that they have created always made some sense.
These two somehow managed to create in multiple genres simultaneously, individually and as a duo. It’s effective music, and in many styles.
They also have a high fusion of styles which although not unique, it is quite compatible. I don’t know if it’s their own, but it just feels good.
And that’s maybe the point of this essay. You can still be imitative and have it feel good. It doesn’t have to be wholly original. As long as it has that extra swagger or something.
You too can win, under somebody else’s game.
