INTERVIEW: Kyle Spence; Miserable To Listen To, Fun To Play

by , June 29, 2020

Kyle Spence is best known in some circles for his involvement with the unequalled band Harvey Milk. He is also an excellent sound engineer and currently can be found behind the drums for Kurt Vile and Dinosaur Jnr.

In 2019 Kyle Spence was on tour in Australia as the drummer for Kurt Vile and The Violators and as luck would have it, thanks to a failed blues festival, they ended up filling an empty date in my town. Kyle was gracious enough to give me an interview before their show which we recorded at the local radio station.

The interview covers his time pre-Harvey Milk and hopefully answers some questions for the die hard fans out there of a band who are sadly under documented. In keeping with the attitude of his band mates he is absolutely scathing at times of parts of their out put which I, as a fan and a critical one at that, can’t fault.

Thank you Kyle for your time and patience.

This interview took place on Jaara country, sovereignty was never ceded.
